The Gallery of Caribbean Art Speightstown, Barbados, Is an enthusiastic and well managed gallery which not only represents established, professional artists but does much to encourage new talent from all over the Caribbean. Our gratitude to all involved, and it's our pleasure to provide a link to the gallery's own website. It features many of the painters, sculptors and potters the Gallery represents and a useful schedule of forthcoming exhibitions.

Ju-Ju's Beach Bar, St James, Barbados.

There's little point in giving a link for Ju-Ju's, it doesn't trade over the web - it's a Beach Bar. I suppose it shouldn't really be on this page but I love it so much it's going in anyway!

Drive north along Highway One. Past Holetown, past The Royal Pavilion you'll find the Seventh Day Adventist Church on your right. Turn right and park opposite. Across the road you'll see a bright green Chattel house - walk down the narrow concrete path alongside the house (it is private but you're allowed!) and you've just found Barbados' best kept secret. It's casual, it's a little scruffy - but it's wonderful!

You don't have to eat but I think you should. The food is superb and affordable, the beach and the bathing just as good. It opens around 10am and closes, well, when everyone's stopped eating and drinking and  gone home, and that can be really, really, late! -SB

De Vine Cafe Restaurant Barbados De Vine Cafe. Chattel House Village, Holetown, St. James, Barbados.

One of my favourite breakfast spots. They advertise as having a 'Men's Creche' - clever when one considers they're surrounded by the shops of the Chattel House Village.- SB.

Olives

Alas and alack! Olives is no more. This fabulous restaurant, famous the world over for it's bread puddings, has closed.

Our best wishes for the proprietor of the new restaurant of course, and Bill, if you're out there, drop me an email will you! -SB

Cassareep Cafe - on the beach, Speightstown, Barbados.

Just a few doors up from The Gallery of Caribbean Art - only beach side! Sam's on the beach. As Sam says, "Let's do lunch!" Fabulous! -SB

What a magnificent place this is, and another huge supporter of the arts. Painting, sculpture, furniture -  the house and grounds are simply bursting with art - and good taste! And if you're a visiting artist there is even an affordable guest suite with bed and breakfast.
