'The
location for this evocative figure painting is Cluffs Bay on
the northern shore of Barbados. As a toy sailing boat bobs
around in the surf a young mother talks to her baby
son. This was the first time I'd ever painted
black skin - and I was simply blown away - black it's
anything but! In bright sunlight the shadows are deepest Indigo and
maroon and
the highlights are lilac! Stunningly, simply stunningly, beautiful
skin! '
